Craftworld Eldar: Off to Warzone Atlanta
I haven't been posting much here on the blog lately as much of my free time these past couple of weeks has been devoted to finishing up some painting on my Craftworld Eldar army. Warzone Atlanta is this weekend and a couple of friends and I are making the trek up to throw some dice and drink some beer.
This is my first time attending the event. It's only in its 2nd year, but I heard nothing but great things about the inaugural event so I'm really looking forward to this year's field of players. From my understanding we'll have a few top national guys such as Aaron Aelong coming in to join the fun for the weekend as well so looking forward to the opportunity to play against some of the best out there.
My list for Warzone is pretty straight forward. It's an Eldar CAD with an Aspect Host Formation full of Warp Spider goodness.

No real tricks or hidden secrets with this list. Eldar should represent well here no doubt as they do in major events all over the world. Warzone Atlanta has an interesting set of rules which makes it really one of the strongest events in the U.S. For starters, they have their own FAQ which runs parallel to essentially the GW FAQ with some minor adjustments here and there. Furthermore, their army construction guidelines are simple: Battle Forged, no limit to number of detachments, Come the Apocalypse allies are fine, and no real restrictions on the types of units that you can bring. The only limit being, 1 Super Heavy or Gargantuan Monstrous Creature except for a Knight army.
The fact that they are using the GW FAQ as opposed to ITC is interesting here mainly because it means they are using unmodified Destroyer shooting attacks. That means D weapons will probably have a strong presence in this event. I expect to see lists with multiple D weapons included (like mine) throughout the event. Also considering they are not limiting the types of units that can be taken, even from Forge World, it's likely there will be crazy units like the Taunar Supremacy Suit and possibly even Forge World Titans. They are even allowing full 30k armies in this thing. There are really no limits to what can be taken in this event, which makes it one of the more interesting in the country I think.
Again, this list runs fairly simply and relies on speed and mobility, high strength shooting, and multiple D weapons. When I designed the list I tried to consider the missions (which are interesting and quite different from a lot of other major events out there) as well as the Army Construction Guidelines. What will I likely see at the event? What can I bring that will benefit me the most with the construction guidelines? Obviously I have a lot of Str 6 shooting and a heavy amount of D weapons. The lack of a restriction on ranged D in this event means it will be a major factor in games.
That said, despite the fact I have a plentiful amount of D weapons at my disposal, I'm not sure it will even be enough really. But we shall see how it goes.
I will try my best to update as often as I can throughout the event. Obviously much of my time will be spent on trying to focus on my games, but I'll try to provide updates whenever possible. It looks to be a great weekend of gaming and I can't wait to get started. To all those attending, look me up when you get there and we can have a beer and talk shop.

Good luck! Not that you'll need it, filthy Eldar scum ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michael. We had a great time. Truly a unique experience and I cannot wait to attend the event next year. Unfortunately I didn't do as well as I would have liked, most of that was due to my lack of experience with the mission format. Most of my free time leading up to this was spent painting and getting my army ready for the event. Didn't get a chance to practice their mission format and it cost me. Still had an amazing time though.
